  • Vomiting of ≥2 episodes, or diarrhea:  May return 24 hours after last episode
  • Strep throat:  May return 24 hours after antibiotic treatment has started
  • Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye): May return 24 hours after antibiotic treatment has started
  • Lice: May return after initial treatment

Medication (prescription and over-the-counter)

Students are prohibited from carrying of self-administering ANY [including over-the-counter (OTC)] medication on school property, per state law, with the exception of prescribed emergency medications (e.g., inhalers and EpiPens with prior written permission). This policy is to protect the health and safety of our school community. The Health Office stocks basic OTC medications for day-to-day needs. Parents/guardians may provide consent by completing and signing a Health Update Form in the Health Forms section below, valid for the current school year.

Other medications must be delivered to school by a parent/guardian, even if it is OTC. It must be in the original unopened labeled bottle or package. By NH law, a signed medication order form must be provided each year by the prescribing provider even if the prescription or instructions have not changed. A parent permission form, in the Health Forms section below, authorizing treatment by HCS staff must also be filled out yearly.

All student medications are required to be picked up at the end of the school year or will be discarded.

Immunizations

The State of New Hampshire (NH RSA 141-C:20-a) requires children attending school show proof of adequate immunization. For a list of immunization requirements by age, please visit the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website:

https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/programs-services/disease-prevention/immunizations/immunization-guidance-schools

Students who do not comply with the requirements for immunization may be excluded from school until they do so (Ed 311.01 (d)). Immunization requirements may be waived for medical or religious reasons.  Please call to talk through this.

Physical exams

A current copy of your student’s physical exam is also required to be on file in the health office. It can be emailed, faxed, or sent in with your student.

New medical conditions, medications, or allergies

Your student’s health is very important to us. If your child develops any new medical conditions or allergies, or starts new medication, please call, email, or send a note.

Other

Please encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast, and make good food choices for snack and lunch. The Health Office is unable to provide snacks for students. Please also have your student dress for the weather. The Health Office relies on donations of clothing and footwear, but often runs out.
