Welcome to Center Woods
Welcome to Center Woods Elementary School
At Center Woods Elementary School (CWES), we create a nurturing and dynamic learning environment for our PreK-3 students. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our programs and curricula, which ensure every child receives a well-rounded education. Here's what makes CWES exceptional
Portrait of a Learner
At CWES, we aim to cultivate knowledgeable problem-solvers, effective communicators, and respectful collaborators. Our learning environment enhances these qualities, preparing our students for future success.
Responsive Classroom and CharacterStrong Curriculum
CWES proudly uses the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness. Our CharacterStrong curriculum further enhances this by promoting school culture, improving behavior, increasing safety, and supporting mental health. These programs create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and empowered.
Academic Programs: i-Ready Classroom Math and Wit & Wisdom English Language Arts (ELA)
Our academic programs are designed to challenge and inspire. To better understand i-Ready Math picture a busy, focused, collaborative classroom driven by real-world mathematics examples and all the support for meeting students right where they are. The Wit & Wisdom curriculum integrates rich, knowledge-building content with reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to cultivate critical thinking and a deep understanding of literature. These programs lay the foundation for academic success.
Reading Fluency: Heggerty and Fundations
We prioritize building strong reading skills through Heggerty and Fundations. Heggerty enhances phonemic awareness, while Fundations provides systematic instruction in phonics, spelling, and handwriting, creating confident and proficient readers.
Unified Arts Classes
We offer diverse Unified Arts (UA) classes, including Library, Physical Education, Art, Music, and STEM. These classes foster creative expression, physical activity, and exploration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, promoting well-rounded development and a love for learning.
Exceptional Educators and Paraprofessionals
Our greatest asset is our dedicated team of caring, supportive, and skilled educators. Our teachers are passionate about fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, going above and beyond to support each child's unique needs. Nearly all our paraprofessionals hold PARA II certification, demonstrating their expertise and commitment to education. Together, our staff works tirelessly to ensure every student receives the attention and support necessary to thrive.
Student Services at Center Woods
Encompassing both special education and 504 services, we provide essential support for students with disabilities or special needs. Special education offers a tailored approach with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), specialized instruction, related services, and curriculum modifications for students with significant educational impacts, while 504 plans focus on removing barriers and providing accommodations for students who don't require specialized instruction but need support to access their education fully. Both programs aim to ensure equal opportunities for learning and success, with special education involving a more comprehensive evaluation process under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Section 504 (plan) of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 addressing physical or mental impairments that substantially limit major life activities. If you have concerns about your child's learning or suspect they may need additional support due to a medical or educational disability, please contact our Student Services Coordinator, Morgan Hallock, to learn more about qualifications, processes, and procedures, including referrals for these services.
